4 Key Benefits Of Growing In Your Knowledge Of God

Growing in your knowledge of God and His ways is fundamental to success in walking in God’s will for your life. Knowledge is second on the list of crucial things that Apostle Peter tells us to add to our faith:

“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge…”~ (2Peter1:5)

Most of my posts are primarily directed at Christians who seek a closer walk with God; this particular post is no exception. I will be writing about 4 key benefits of growing in the knowledge of God.

1)Growing in your knowledge of God multiplies your accomplishments in God.

“And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.
~Daniel 11:32(KJV)
Today’s church has need for men and women who know their God. Exploits for God is simply a function of the strength, length, width, depth and height of your knowledge of God – that is, His person, His principles and His power.

2) You become an inspiration to other children of God.

“Each man will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land.

Then the eyes of those who see will no longer be closed, and the ears of those who hear will listen. The mind of the rash will know and understand, and the stammering tongue will be fluent and clear. ~Isaiah 32: 2-4
Men remain God’s methods. When you grow in your knowledge of God, you become a shelter from the wind; a refuge from the storm; streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land for the rest of God’s people.
You are the salt of the earth; the light of the world.(Matthew 5: 13,14) God’s people benefit from your light. You can’t afford to settle or become complacent in your walk with God.
As your light shines, you inspire the pursuit of God in the lives of those who come in contact with you.

3) You preserve the knowledge of God on the earth.
Isaiah 32 contains yet another key benefit of growing in your knowledge of God.

“No longer will the fool be called noble nor the scoundrel be highly respected.
For the fool speaks folly, his mind is busy with evil: He practices ungodliness and spreads error concerning the LORD; the hungry he leaves empty and from the thirsty he withholds water.”
~Isaiah 32:5-6

The church today has been invaded by ‘fools who practice ungodliness and spread error concerning the LORD.’However, as you grow in your knowledge of God, you evolve into a pillar in God’s kingdom and help enforce His will on the earth.

Interestingly, the NIV and many other translations of the Bible write Daniel 11:32 as follows:

“With flattery he will corrupt those who have violated the covenant, but the people who know their God will firmly resist him. ~Daniel 11:32

When you know your God, you will firmly resist the spread of errors concerning the Lord. You preserve the knowledge of God and His ways on the earth.

Recently, during one of our church services, a pastor recounted an experience she had where a well known ministry wrote that Jesus was one of the best things that could happen to someone. She cringed when she saw the line , as did the rest of us she shared the story with. One of the best, huh?! He is the best!
The Psalmist declares:

Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
~Psalms 73:25

While some folks conveniently forget this truth when they come across this verse, for some, it is their prayer; and yet others, a daily experience . It’s your choice.

Jesus told the Sadducees:

“…You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.”~Matthew 22:29

It’s your knowledge of God and His ways that saves both you and those who look up to you from error.

4) It saves you from being infected with “the eternal baby” virus.

The holy scriptures describe the symptoms of this virus infection as “always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth.” (2 Timothy 3:7)

“In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!”
Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness.~Hebrews 5:12-13
We live at a time when the brand of Christianity practised by Paul and the other Apostles of Jesus bears little resemblance to what happens in most parts of Christendom. Sometimes, I wonder what today’s average Christian’s stories will be in heaven, if they decide to swap stories of exploits with the Christians of old. Probably while Philip recounts his experiences of setting a city in Samaria ablaze for Jesus (Acts 8), some might tell stories of wonderful sermons by their Pastors and the very tasty small chops usually eaten after church services.

Simply put, you can’t afford to be an “eternal baby” in God. So you have to pursue growth in your knowledge of God.

“and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.” ~Proverbs2: 3-5

One way to grow in your knowledge of God is to go to God in prayer and ask for His help. He has promised to pour water on the thirsty soul.(Isaiah 55:1) God bless you as you do so.
